Objectives:
At
the conclusion of this lecture,
the participant will be able to:
1. Review the pharmacologic and
physiologic effects for various classes of anti-thrombotic and
anti-coagulant agents
2. Discuss the impact of reversal strategies
for these agents
3. Introduce and evaluate both pharmacologic and
blood factor regimens used for reversing the pharmacologic effects of
antithrombotics and anticoagulant agents
4. Correlate best - practice
strategies for reversing the clinical effects of antithrombotics and
anticoagulants under various clinical presentations
Goal:
The
goal of this presentation
is to recognize the effects of anticoagulants and antithrombotics on the
clotting cascade and to delineate a strategy for the safe and
clinically appropriate reversal of these agents under varying clinical
presentations.
Teaching Strategy:
The teaching strategy will
be didactic in the form of a PowerPoint presentation, followed by a
question and answer period.
