Objectives: At the conclusion of this lecture,
the participant will be able to: 1. Review the pharmacologic and physiologic effects for various classes of anti-thrombotic and anti-coagulant agents 2. Discuss the impact of reversal strategies for these agents 3. Introduce and evaluate both pharmacologic and blood factor regimens used for reversing the pharmacologic effects of antithrombotics and anticoagulant agents 4. Correlate best - practice strategies for reversing the clinical effects of antithrombotics and anticoagulants under various clinical presentations
Goal: The goal of this presentation
is to recognize the effects of anticoagulants and antithrombotics on the clotting cascade and to delineate a strategy for the safe and clinically appropriate reversal of these agents under varying clinical presentations.
Teaching Strategy: The teaching strategy will
be didactic in the form of a PowerPoint presentation, followed by a
question and answer period.
